The original idea was formulated by David CROMBIE and Eric CHASE who put forward the cash to purchase three second hand mats and equipment to set up the short mat bowling club in 2006. The venue was the old Whiteparish Village Hall.
The club was formed in January 2007. The village hall had a capacity for three mats to be played at the same time, and as the minimal space restricted the numbers, it was decided that 18 maximum for the afternoon and 18 max. for the evening session during the period January to April. As the hall floor was wooden planks and had not been changed since it was built in 1928.It had had a lot of wear and was worn to the extent that it was grooved and knots stood proud, all of which added to the running of the bowls being inconsistent to say the least.
The money raised by yearly membership of £10 each, and £2 each session soon repaid the initial costs laid out for the purchase of equipment.
In 2010 a number of enthusiastic members met in a local inn to form a committee. It was also decided that we should join the Wiltshire Short Mat Bowling Association.
